Følgende brev ble i dag sendt til Jack Thompson, en advokat i USA som går hardt ut mot den såkalte "Hot Coffee" modusen i Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas.

Dear Mr. Thompson

Have you got nothing better to do with your time than to spread your
blatant fear for anything that doesen't match with your twisted
perception of life?
Although your intentions are commendable in trying to lead young
people of today into a better life, the place to start is not with
video games!

Playing a video game (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas), in which two of
the characters engage in sexual activities, wherein one of the
characters is fully dressed, will not cause you to run out on a sexual
rampage.
Neither will the cartoon-like violence in said game make kids around
the globe run out into the streets with shotguns to kill cops. If they
were so inclined, they would most certainly have done this anyway.
We are intelligent beings, Mr. Thompson. We know that killing other
people is wrong, and 99,9% of us will never commit such an act.
However, some individuals within society get thrown out on the wrong
path. I guess you people would describe them as straying from god or
something...
People have always struggled with psychiatric problems, obviously some
more than others.
But should J.D. Salinger have been sued for aiding and embedding to
murder, just because Mark David Chapman credited this book in his
explanation as to why he took the life of John Lennon?

History is full of violence, Mr. Thompson. We are, after all, mammals,
and violence and sex are two inherent parts of our very beings.
Granted, Civilication has attempted to bring these to primal urges
under control with the introduction of guidelines via christianity
(thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not covet thy neighbors...well,
everything, etc. etc.), in which the very people spreading these words
were the most eager to break them. Christianity is responsible for
several millions of killings throughout history, and here we are, in
2005, more full of ourselves than ever.

It breaks my heart to see the way society's turned, when a game like
Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas is released onto the free market without
any kind of fuss.
But when some kid frees the code to make to computer generated (for
god's sake!) characters hump away on his computer monitor, you people
jump onto the ceilings and cry out like never before!
Bigot, Mr. Thompson. That's the word that describes you (in plenum).
You scurry about the world spreading fear and intolerance with your
attitudes towards all the things that are new and scary to you, whilst
losing focus on the things that should matter. The things that were
important to the conservative side ten years ago. Things like family
and education were what mattered to you. Now you go on a crusade
against video games. Like you tried to attack comic books in the past.
And the bikini in the 50s. Not to mention Rock 'n Roll.
Don't you people ever get tired of being wrong? Don't you people ever
wake up in the morning, and realise "Hmm... maybe all those people are
laughing at us for a reason?".
Make no mistake, Mr. Thompson, you are being made a fool to the rest
of the world. Your ridiculous parade is nothing more than a laughing
matter to us (Norway, if you were wondering), in which every single
person I have discussed this matter with (including my
hyper-conservative grandmother) have shrugged in disbelief. "How can
people be so stupid?!" is the most common response I get.
We laugh at you, Mr. Thompson. please take that into consideration,
and reevaluate your priorities.
